21 December 2015: Shomin Sample needs more Hara Yumi

Aika
Aika reminds me too much of Chiwa from Oreshura.

I would not have watched Ore ga Ojou-sama Gakkou ni "Shomin Sample" Toshite Gets♥Sareta Ken (Shomin Sample: I Was Abducted by an Elite All-Girls School as a Sample Commoner) except for the fact that Hara Yumi (the voice of Takane in THE iDOLM@STER and Yuuko in Tasogare Otome x Amnesia) is in it and somebody (whose trustworthiness is now shot) insisted the manga is funny. As it turns out, Hara Yumi is barely in it at all, and the anime—regardless of how the manga or light novel might be—is not funny. At best, I can merely say that it could have been a lot worse.

Kimito and Reiko
Kimito is actually only interested in her thighs.

Through 11 episodes, with the finale due in a couple days, Shomin Sample hasn't done very much with its absurd premise. The setting itself, a secluded school for filthy-rich girls completely isolated from normal society, seems rather halfhearted since only one of the characters fits the ojousama stereotype. The rest of Potato-kun's harem consists of a "sword girl," an autistic girl who looks like a small child, a variety of maids, and an assortment of other characters who may as well be stock characters from any other harem comedy. With regard to their isolation from society, they could have been time travelers, aliens, people from a different dimension, amnesiacs, androids, or any other excuse for fish-out-of-water situations.

Miyuki
Eh, his maid's okay.

Hara Yumi plays Potato-kun's childhood friend, at least in theory, since she's essentially absent from the show. Not that the inclusion of a stock childhood friend character would have improved the series. In fact, as I learned from suffering through 35th Platoon for its seiyuu, the inclusion of more Hara Yumi in the show likely still wouldn't have made it worth watching. Unless this next episode is wall-to-wall Eri, I guess I'll never know. At least she sings the ED. That part's pretty nice.
